Santa Cruz was founded in
1442, It did not become the capital of Tenerife until the XIX
century. Until then it was just the harbour for La Laguna. Its
famous for its shopping, the main ones being the pedestrian
walkway, "La Calle Castillo". This used to be the royal
passway connecting the harbour to la Laguna. Other shopping
areas are close by, "Imeldo Seris, villalba Hervas and
Bethancourt Afonso" (better known as San José) are all
recommended as places to find those special gifts and
souvenirs, or why not just treat yourself.
